This week we covered George Bizet and I gave you a 15 minute lesson plan to teach your kids the Toreador Song. But sometimes you have to work extra hard to make classical music tangible and engaging for young children, and crafts are the way to go. Add this activity on to your lesson and it might just come to life.
My daughter and I spent some time yesterday afternoon working on this little project. I hope you will give it a try!
First, Your Literature…
The Story of Ferdinand is a classic that has stood the test of time. Sweet little Ferdinand learns to be himself, even if it means going against the grain.
The story begins in Spain…
Sweet Ferdinand likes to relax in the pasture…
But what happens to him?
You’ll have to read it to find out!
Project Time…
Now that you are done reading, get your crafting soundtrack going.
Bullfighting is a major theme in George Bizet’s Carmen, so how about we make a bull?
I used this little tutorial I found here…
Get out your paint and scissors…
Add your standard issue toilet paper roll and a bit of glue and behold…
Our own little Ferdinand:
He’s cute, right?

Let me know if you give it a try! Send me your pics at kristi@kristihillmusic.com.
XOXO,
